Tour Author Gabby Bernstein’s “European Contemporary” Manhattan Pied-à-Terre

When Gabby Bernstein and Zach Rocklin started imagining a new downtown Manhattan pied-à-terre to use when they weren’t at their primary residence in Connecticut, they had a series of visions in mind. The space would have ample light. They would be clear of clutter, overstuffed storage, and toys underfoot. The apartment wouldn’t have too many bedrooms or too many houseguests. The couple didn’t need this space to have a traditional definition of “home.”

Bernstein, a New York Times best-selling author, motivational speaker, podcaster, and spiritual self-help guru who counts Oprah among her fans, explains that she and her husband wanted this relatively petite pied-à-terre to be different from their significantly larger main home, which has a classical, somewhat English-country-house look. In the city, the couple sought something “very sleek, very clean, very uncluttered,” Bernstein recalls, “a serene creative space for us to clear our heads.” Rocklin, the CEO of the business that has grown up around Bernstein’s work, Dear Gabby, Inc., as well as an artist and designer, continues. “It’s an incredible privilege to get to craft a space where you don’t have to squeeze in all your stuff. You’re free to play a bit.”
